What Do Technicians Look for During a Summer Maintenance Visit?

HVAC Technician Troubleshooting HVAC System

The beauty of HVAC maintenance agreements is you don’t have to worry about prepping your air conditioner for the sweltering summer months. Your HVAC company should reach out and schedule an appointment before the extreme temperatures arrive, ensuring your system is purring like the proverbial kitten in advance of any heat waves.

But what, exactly, will the technicians do while they’re there? Let us break it down for you:

Step 1: Visual Inspection of the Air Conditioner

Your tech will look around for any obvious problems right off the bat. This can include debris blocking your fan blades, frayed electrical cables from pest damage, or signs of rust and corrosion.

Step 2: A Thorough Cleaning of Your HVAC Innards

Once they’ve made note of any obvious items, it’s time for them to get under the hood and see what’s going on inside. They’ll check fan blades, motor components, belts, the drain, furnace filters, coolant levels and more. If they find anything amiss along the way, they’ll top it off, tune it up or bring it to your attention.

Step 3: Final Testing and Calibration

After the unit is cleaned, tuned, and put back together, your technician should check to make sure everything is working properly. Testing should also include a calibration of your thermostat to ensure it knows when to turn the system on and off.

When they’re all done, they’ll pack up their toys and bid you a fond farewell….until your next appointment.
